Local News in Brief : Irvine : Monorail From Airport to Offices Proposed
A proposed monorail linking John Wayne Airport with an Irvine business office complex has received the unanimous endorsement of the Airport Commission.
Next stop for the $3-million project is the County Board of Supervisors, which will take up the issue Tuesday.
The McDonnell Douglas Realty Co. monorail would travel a half mile between proposed twin office towers and the new airport terminal, construction on which is scheduled to begin early next year. It is being designed so other businesses could build links to it.
In addition to approval by the supervisors, the project also needs approval by Irvine officials.
“But the key is the county approval because of the airport terminal construction,” said Bill Schreiber, a consultant to McDonnell Douglas Realty Co.
