Huntington Beach City School District drew praise from business and education officials Thursday for being the first county school system selected to participate in a new statewide pilot program to increase business support of public schools.
Called “the California Compact,” the program was announced last spring by Bill Honig, state superintendent of public instruction. Honig said the program seeks to have businesses join with school districts in setting specific, measurable goals for improvements in education.
The state Department of Education later named Huntington Beach City School District as one of 10 in the state to launch the program.
Supt. Diana Peters told a luncheon gathering Thursday that businesses will be asked to help schools by supplying guest speakers, material and money.
