Local News in Brief : Irvine : Man Killed, Wife Hurt in Canyon Road Crash
An Irvine man was killed and his wife seriously injured when their car crashed into a concrete center divider on Laguna Canyon Road between the San Diego and Santa Ana freeways, police said.
Gregory Scott Karnes, 40, died at the scene and his wife, Peggi Linea Karnes, 37, suffered major head injuries and was airlifted to Mission Regional Hospital and Medical Center, where she was reported in stable condition Wednesday, Irvine Police Lt. Al Muir said.
The accident occurred at 9:32 p.m. Tuesday when the couple were traveling north on Laguna Canyon Road in their 1985 Porsche 911, Muir said.
Preliminary investigation shows the car passed Pasteur Street, struck the median and three traffic signposts, rolled over and came to rest on its wheels. Gregory Karnes was thrown about 25 feet from the car, Muir said.
