Jackie Joyner-Kersee, who won two gold medals at the Summer Olympics, was named amateur sportswoman of the year by the Women’s Sports Foundation. Joyner-Kersee has won the award 2 consecutive years.
Joyner-Kersee won the heptathlon and long jump at Seoul, the World Championships and the Pan American Games.
Susan Butcher, who won her third consecutive Iditarod sled-dog race in 1988, was named the foundation’s professional sportswoman of the year for the second straight time.
