The wife of a Lodi city councilman remained in critical condition Monday after what police are calling a robbery-assault, a police spokesman said.
Marjorie Reid, 62, was found unconscious Sunday night by a security guard outside Kelly’s Steak House, 248 Hotel Circle North, and was taken to UCSD Medical Center with severe head injuries and fractures to her right hip and knee, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Judging from the extent of her injuries, the spokeswoman said, Reid may have been struck by a hit-run driver.
Reid, whose husband was attending a League of California Cities annual convention in San Diego, was last seen walking back to her hotel room in the 500 block of North Hotel Circle, police spokesman Bill Robinson said. Her purse reportedly was missing when she was found.
“Where she was found is a heavy traffic area,” Robinson said. “There is a possibility she could have been struck by a car. But, since her purse has not been found, robbery has not been dismissed.” Reid was still unconscious, he said.
Fred Reid is a member of the Lodi City Council. The town is situated northeast of Stockton in Northern California.
