College Roundup : UC Irvine Blanks Cal State L.A. in Soccer, 1-0

Darren Bedolla scored the only goal as UC Irvine shut out Cal State Los Angeles, 1-0, in a nonconference men’s soccer match Sunday at Irvine.
Bedolla, who took a pass from Fred Bonilla 15 feet in front of the net, scored 10 minutes into the second half to break the scoreless tie. Irvine Goalie Damon Ellis made 3 saves.
Irvine is 5-8.
In nonconference women’s soccer:
UC Irvine 1, Cal State Dominguez Hills 1 (overtime)--The Anteaters’ Colleen Gamblin scored 20 minutes into the second half to tie the score at Irvine. Donna Roberston scored 4 minutes into the game for Dominguez Hills. Goalie Alicia Miller had 12 saves for Irvine (4-9-1). Julie Chamberlain had 6 for Dominguez Hills (6-6-2).
In Big West Conference water polo:
UC Irvine 14, University of the Pacific 9--Pacific’s Craig Appley scored the game’s first goal, but Irvine scored the next 7 at Pacific. The Anteaters led, 5-1, after the first period and 8-2 at halftime. Tony Bell and Tom Warde each scored 4 goals for Irvine (9-8, 2-1). Appley scored 2 for the Tigers (6-9, 1-6).
In nonconference women’s volleyball:
UC Irvine 3, Pennsylvania 0--Dana Parker had 11 kills and 11 digs for host Irvine, which won, 15-9, 15-5, 15-8. The Anteaters are 12-7.
