Tom Petranoff, former world record-holder in the javelin, and middle-distance runner Ruth Wysocki became the latest U.S. athletes to arrive in Johannesburg, South Africa, where they will participate in South Africa’s first international track meet in 12 years.
In all, 15 competitors have arrived in defiance of the international sports boycott imposed on South Africa because of its racial policies.
The group includes a Brazilian, a U.S.-based Kenyan and 13 U.S. athletes.
