John S. R. Swanson, chairman of Barratt American, has been named chairman and chief executive of Barratt Developments, a British-based home builder. Company founder Sir Lawrie Barratt will be stepping down as chairman and taking on the newly created position of life president on Jan. 1. Barratt American has headquarters in Irvine.
