A man on parole for attempted murder was returned to prison after he walked into Parker Center police headquarters in downtown Los Angeles and threatened to kill Police Chief Daryl F. Gates, authorities said.
“He’s history with a capital H,” Officer Ryan Vanderhook said of Tyrone McElroy, 42, who also allegedly sent threatening letters to Gates from prison.
“Obviously he didn’t like my sparkling personality,” Gates quipped after McElroy’s arrest Thursday evening.
McElroy was not armed at the time of his arrest, and the exact threats he expressed were not disclosed. But Gates said his staff took the threats seriously.
