Fall Sports Roundup : De La Cerda Leads the Pack but Alemany Loses to Loyola

Peter De La Cerda of Alemany High cruised to his fifth victory in 6 races, but the Indians lost to Loyola, 20-39, in a Del Rey League meet at O’Melveny Park on Thursday afternoon.
De La Cerda clocked 15 minutes, 41 seconds over the 3-mile course, but Loyola (2-0 in league meets) swept the next five places, led by Peter Hogan (15:53).
De La Cerda’s only loss of the season came at the Bell-Jeff Invitational at Griffith Park 2 weeks ago when he placed second to Burbank’s Todd Lewis.
In other boys’ meets:
La Salle 23, Notre Dame 36--La Salle, paced by Kevin Delaney’s victory, placed 5 runners in the top 8 to win the San Fernando Valley League meet at Mulholland Trail.
Delaney clocked 16:54 over the 3-mile course. Eddie Diaz placed second for Notre Dame in 17:20.
L.A. Baptist 23, Marshall Fundamental 32--Wes Smith and Tim Daker finished first and second for L. A. Baptist in the Alpha League meet at Eaton Canyon.
GIRLS’ CROSS-COUNTRY
Notre Dame 23, Alemany 32--Jenny Reeder’s victory paced Notre Dame (2-1, 1-1) in the San Fernando Valley League meet at Mulholland Trail.
Reeder clocked 22:44 over the 3-mile course.
WATER POLO
Harvard 21, Calabasas 1--Junior Shane Loomis scored 5 goals to lead the Saracens (13-3) to a nonleague win at Harvard. Thirteen different players scored for Harvard, ranked No. 1 in the Southern Section 2-A Division poll.
Crespi 10, St. John Bosco 7--Tom Woiwode scored 5 goals and Matt Stainner added 3 for Crespi (5-4, 1-1) in the Dey Rey League match.
