A 12,000-acre wildfire in San Bernardino County was contained, but fire officials said they do not expect to extinguish the blaze until Thursday. “It’s really important we get all of the hot spots because the wind could pick up a spark,” Lindsay Maierhofer of the U.S. Forest Service said. Full control of the fire, which was was set by an arsonist last Wednesday on Texas Hill, is expected Thursday morning. Flames from the fire were fanned last week by gusty Santa Ana winds, closing nearby Interstate 15 at times and forcing hundreds of residents in the Rancho Cucamonga area to flee their homes. One ranch home and a shed were destroyed. Property losses totaled $250,000, officials said. The cost of fighting the fire was estimated at nearly $2 million.
