Youth Dies in La Habra Drag Race
A 17-year-old died Saturday after he apparently lost control of his Ford Mustang during a drag race in La Habra and the car was sheared in half when it hit a utility pole, authorities said.
Andrew Meza of Rowland Heights was ejected from the car on impact shortly after 11 p.m. Friday, La Habra Police Sgt. J. Cline said. Meza was taken to Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital in Whittier where he died at 1:45 a.m., Cline said.
According to witnesses, Meza was racing another car northbound on Harbor Boulevard from Whittier Boulevard, Cline said. Just north of Arbolita Drive, Meza lost control of his car.
