Briton Keeps Medal, 2nd Loses
SEOUL — British sprinter Linford Christie was cleared today of charges he took drugs, despite failing a screening test, and will keep his 100 meters silver medal, a senior Olympic official said.
But the medical commission recommended that a second British athlete, Kerrith Brown, be stripped of his judo bronze medal and thrown out of the Games for using drugs--the ninth athlete to be ousted for doping. Christie, who moved up to the silver when Ben Johnson was kicked out for steroid use, showed positive for an over-the-counter cold remedy, a British team official said.
