Huntington Park : Policeman’s Firing Upheld
The Huntington Park City Council has upheld the firing of a police officer accused of beating a handcuffed prisoner who died shortly after being arrested.
The council last week affirmed the finding of the city’s Civil Service Commission that former Officer Peter McGuire hit and kicked Acacio Ramirez during his 1987 arrest. Ramirez, who also used the name Jose Robles, died of injuries suffered during his arrest.
McGuire’s lawyer, Richard A. Shinee, said he probably will ask the Superior Court to compel the city to reinstate the former officer, who was dismissed Dec. 16, 1987.
The district attorney’s office is investigating the case to determine whether criminal charges will be filed.
