Del Mar, Solana Beach

Revenue from satellite betting at the Del Mar Race Track will be split between Del Mar and Solana Beach under a bill signed Sunday by Gov. George Deukmejian, ending the neighboring cities’ squabble over the profits.

The new law, sponsored by Assemblyman Dick Floyd (D-Hawthorne), will distribute one-third of 1% of the handle to Del Mar, Solana Beach and San Diego County, said Del Mar Councilwoman Brooke Eisenberg.

Each of the cities will receive 40% of the money, and the county will get 20% to develop San Dieguito River Park.

Previously, the Del Mar Fair Board was allowed--but not required--to set aside as much as one-third of 1% of the revenue for Del Mar or the county government.

But the board had not taken such action, saying that Solana Beach, like Del Mar, should receive compensation for serving as a “host city” for the racing activities. The three governments could be entitled to as much as several hundred thousand dollars a year.
