“Star Trek: The Next Generation” is beaming aboard a new semi-regular cast member: Whoopi Goldberg, who’ll be playing Guinan, the Enterprise’s “alien humanoid hostess,” a.k.a. bartender. Goldberg will figure prominently in the storylines filmed on the Enterprise’s new recreation deck, Ten Forward. The lounge will allow for the further development of the new “Star Trek’s” characters in the strip’s second season, said a spokesman for Paramount, the show’s producers. Executive producer Gene Roddenberry said Goldberg, a long-time fan of the “Star Trek” shows, approached him with the prospect of appearing on the series.
