Football Top 10 and Standings : Morse Stays in Top Spot Despite Loss

SAN DIEGO — After a week in which four of the county’s top 10 football teams were beaten, Morse remained the No. 1-ranked team in the Times’ San Diego County poll.
Morse was among last week’s losers, 14-7 to Mission Viejo. Other losers last week were No. 6 Helix (12-9 to Madison), No. 7 Vista (24-0 to Oceanside) and No. 8 Sweetwater (34-0 to Carson).
Oceanside moved from No. 7 to No. 3 with its victory over Vista, but the Pirates figure to be tested tonight when they travel to Santa Ana to meet Orange County power Mater Dei.
El Camino, with a 27-19 victory over defending 3-A champion Point Loma, and USDHS, with a 27-20 victory over then-No. 4 Torrey Pines, moved into the Top 10 for the first time.
