Firefighters have contained 70% of a stubborn wildfire in the King Range National Conservation Area of southern Humboldt County and expect to have the blaze completely under control soon, the California Department of Forestry reported. The fire, which began Sept. 4 after a motorist tossed a lighted cigarette from a car, has burned oak, Douglas fir and redwood trees in a 6,068-acre containment area in the proposed Lost Coast Wilderness area. The cost of fighting the blaze has reached $1.2 million.
