Hoover 13, Saugus 13--Saugus cornerback Angel Martinez emerged as the unlikely hero by blocking Brad Faunce’s extra-point attempt with 16 seconds remaining at Glendale.
Less than two minutes earlier, Martinez was called for pass interference deep in Hoover territory, giving the Tornadoes new life. They drove into Saugus territory and set up the game-tying touchdown on a 34-yard pass from Steve Solano to Michael Rotondi. Three plays later, Solano tied the score on a one-yard keeper before Martinez blocked the PAT attempt.
Hoover opened the game with a 17-play, 88-yard scoring drive that took 8:53.
Saugus tailback Brandon King rushed for 95 yards in 8 carries, including an 80-yard scoring run on Saugus’ first play from scrimmage.
