Ventura 28, Simi Valley 0--Running back Chris Lambert ran for 87 yards and two first-half touchdowns as Ventura scored all its points by halftime at Simi Valley.
Ventura quarterback Tim Albrent led the first-half assault, completing 7 of 8 passes for 126 yards and a touchdown. The Ventura defense, led by linebacker Jesse Sloan’s interception and fumble recovery, limited Simi Valley to 127 total yards and six first downs in the game.
Danny Taylor scored from two yards on Ventura’s first possession after Delaney Attebery returned the opening kickoff 67 yards.
Lamont Harris led the Pioneers with 47 yards in 11 carries. Simi Valley quarterbacks Ken Doll and Jeff Sommer combined to complete only 3 of 16 passes for 38 yards. Three of their passes were intercepted.
