The details of the 12-hourlong Bishop Tutu World Peace Concert--set for Sept. 10 in the L.A. Memorial Coliseum--fell into place at a press conference Thursday. The event’s musical director, Quincy Jones, said about 75 acts will take part in the megaconcert, which organizers hope will bring attention to the widespread detention of black children in South Africa under the apartheid government’s current state of emergency. Among the participants are Manhattan Transfer, Herbie Hancock, King Sunny Ade, Ruben Blades, Ozzy Osbourne, Chuck Mangione, Kool and the Gang, Burning Spear and Morris Day. Besides Jones, a number of other luminaries will also be on hand to give support: Harry Belafonte, Oprah Winfrey, Morgan Fairchild, Joe Piscopo and Arsenio Hall. Tickets for the event--which will also be broadcast live on the Showtime cable network--will go on sale Saturday at all Ticketron and Ticketmaster outlets.
