Time Inc.’s second-quarter income climbed 8% to $84 million on revenue of $1.1 billion. The improvement came despite the absence of a one-time, after-tax gain of $10 million in the last year’s second quarter. The New York-based company also credited strong performances at its cable television and books operations, its continuing share repurchase program and a lower effective tax rate.
