The big vote-gatherers in the 1988 MTV Music Video Awards nominations--announced Tuesday--were Aussie rocksmiths INXS, the Irish band U2 and ex-Beatle/film producer George Harrison. INXS nabbed eight nods and U2 six, while Harrison copped two key nominations for his “When We Was Fab” video. Other multiple nominees included three for clips by George Michael and four for videos by Bruce Springsteen. The nominees in 15 categories were announced during a breakfast news conference. The MTV Music Video Awards will be held this year on Sept. 7, broadcast live on the MTV cable network from the Universal Amphitheatre.
