Toshiba America has named Kiichi Hataya, a Toshiba executive in Tokyo, to succeed Kazuo Ishiguro as president of the company’s Irvine-based industrial electronics business sector. Ishiguro, who has headed the Irvine operation since 1985, has been promoted to a post with Toshiba America’s Tokyo-based parent, Toshiba Corp. He will be general manager of international operations for the electronic giant’s information and communications systems group. Toshiba’s Irvine unit manufactures portable laptop computers, business telephones and medical equipment. Toshiba America also has manufacturing operations in Mitchell, S.D. The group employs nearly 900 people in the United States, about half of those in Irvine. Hataya, 48, will move to Irvine from Tokyo, where he has held a senior management position in Toshiba’s information and communications systems group.
