Court Tells Mother to Use Birth Control

PHOENIX — A judge has ordered a young woman to use contraceptives for the rest of her child-bearing years as the penalty for abandoning her two young sons last summer.
Counsel for Debra Ann Forster, 18, and the American Civil Liberties Union in Arizona objected to the sentence Tuesday as a violation of the Mesa woman’s constitutional rights.
She was sentenced to permanent probation and ordered to provide her probation officer with regular, written proof that she is using birth control. Forster pleaded guilty to two felony counts of attempted child abuse after the boys were left unattended for two days.
