Police staking out a neighborhood near Griffith Park victimized by a rash of robberies chased down and shot a man armed with a large buck knife early Wednesday, Los Angeles police said.
The man, Javier Magana, 24, is believed responsible for seven robberies in the last two weeks, Lt. William Hall said. Magana was booked on suspicion of robbery at the Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center jail ward, where he was treated for a gunshot wound in his leg, Hall said.
The confrontation came after police staked out the neighborhood near Los Feliz Boulevard and Edenhurst Avenue and spotted a parked car that had been involved in some of the seven robberies since May 12, Hall said. Two officers shot at Magana after he “reached for his waistband and turned toward the officers,” Hall said.
