Boggs Story Fails to Satisfy One . . .
I was truly disappointed that none of your reporters properly analyzed the Diane Boggs city business card case. (“Boggs Should Pay City for Business Card She Put on Flyer, Rival Says,” Times, May 5.)
She bought 5,500 city business cards from the city of Downey for $64.65. She then stapled them to her political flyers, and passed them out.
She has two opponents who can match her flyer, but they cannot staple 5,500 classy city business cards to their flyers for her price. They would have to pay four or five times the city’s price.
The question is not whether or not she paid for the cards, or how much she paid. The point is that case law prohibits anyone (including mayors) from using staff time or city property or equipment for personal or political reasons.
