Norwalk Budget Calls for Cuts in Sheriff’s Service

NORWALK — The City Council this week began its review of a $14.8 million budget proposal that calls for cuts in Sheriff’s Department services, as well as operation and maintenance spending.
The city administrator’s proposed 1988-89 budget is $1 million less than this year’s, a reduction forced in part by a loss of federal revenue sharing funds.
The proposal balances the budget, and if the City Council adds any spending items, the money would have to come from the city’s $12 million cash reserve, Finance Director Wiley Jung said.
Norwalk contracts with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department for police patrols, which would be reduced under the budget recommendations, Jung said.
