Scott Davison pitched a three-hitter with 13 strikeouts to lead Redondo High School to 4-2 victory over Valencia Tuesday in a second-round Southern Section 4-A playoff game at Redondo.
Davison, a senior right-hander, improved to 17-0 for the season and 47-5 in his four-year career. His mark of 17-0 is the best undefeated single-season record in Southern Section history.
He also hit a three-run home in the fifth as Redondo (29-2) erased a 2-0 Valencia lead. It was his ninth home run of the season. Henry Schelb followed with a solo home run, also his ninth, off Robert Navarette. Navarette (5-2) allowed five hits and had seven strikeouts but took the loss.
Valencia loaded the bases with one out in the six on a hit, a walk and an error.
But Davison came back to strike out John Daugherty and Sam Lopez to end the inning.
Valencia had opened a 2-0 lead in the second on a home run by Randy Roskelly after a one-out walk to Daugherty.
Valencia, the co-champion in the Orange League, ended the season 16-7-1. Redondo advances to play Cerritos in a quarterfinal game Friday.
