NEW BERN, N.C. — Tons of mushy wood pulp spewed from a ruptured storage tank at a lumber plant Tuesday, injuring eight workers buried in up to 6 feet of the oatmeal-like material, officials said.
The accident at the Weyerhaeuser Co. plant left seven of the employees hospitalized, three of them in critical condition. In addition, a rescue worker suffered a heart attack while struggling to pull the others from the pulp.
