David Sohappy Sr., a Yakima Indian fisherman and treaty rights advocate, was released from prison in Spokane, Wash., after serving nearly a year and a half for illegally selling 317 fish. Sohappy, 63, and his son, David Sohappy Jr., 29, were both sentenced to five-year federal prison terms in 1983 after they were convicted of selling fish to undercover agents during a federal-state investigation along the Columbia River. Prosecutors claimed they were part of a fish-poaching ring. The Sohappys were imprisoned in August, 1986.
