Criticism of Moscow
You published letters (May 9) from a couple of readers who took issue with Charles T. Powers’ article on the shabbiness of Moscow (Part I, April 29).
These readers felt that there was really no reason to run such an article because it was stereotypical in nature and that such portrayals of the Soviet Union could be detrimental in reaching a mutual understanding.
One of the readers actually states that the future of this planet depends on us reaching an understanding with the Soviets.
What bunk!
It is highly unlikely that such an understanding can ever be reached.
Does this mean that the planet goes to hell in a hand basket? We know all too well what the Soviets’ objectives are.
We should thank our lucky stars that the United States and the Soviet Union are worlds apart in ideology.
The only thing the Soviets understand is strength through superior firepower.
