‘Scapegoats’

The editorial “Calling All Scapegoats” (May 8) brings to mind a question. If I play the horses at a local track or go to Las Vegas and play whatever and win $5,000, I must pay state and federal taxes. If I lose, so be it.

If I play the stock market and lose I can write it off. Why should we taxpayers subsidize those who play the market?
