Carlucci sought to enlist the help of the Israel lobby and Israel’s congressional supporters to get money for the U.S. “Star Wars” missile defense research program. “Those who consider themselves friends of Israel and who want to cut (“Star Wars”) funding should be asked how they plan to help meet Israel’s security needs in a changing and more threatening military environment,” Carlucci told the annual conference of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee in Washington.
