Jamaica’s Balloon Festival
MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica — Jamaica’s first International Hot Air Balloon Festival and Air Show is scheduled for Saturday through May 23 in Montpelier, 10 miles from the island’s tourism center here.
The event will be highlighted by daily races from 7 to 10 a.m. featuring competitors from the United States, Canada and Great Britain. Participants in the balloon races will include American Al Nells, world champion; Paul Woessner of Brentwood, Tenn., two-time world champion, and Sid Cutter of Albuquerque, N.M., two-time U.S. champion.
The festival will also feature a fair with souvenirs, crafts, food, music and exhibitions including parachuting and sky diving by the Jamaica Defense Force Air Wing, a kite-flying exhibition and a model airplane exhibit presented by the Model Airplane Club of Kingston.
