Community College Softball : Fullerton Defeats Southwestern, 2-0

Kristin Jacobs allowed only one hit in five innings to lead host Fullerton College to a 2-0 victory over Southwestern on Saturday in the second round of the Southern California Regional softball playoffs.

Fullerton scored in the first inning when Julie Poulos walked, stole second and third and came home on an error. Linda Morales doubled in the fourth and scored on Tammy Rodriguez’s single.

Southwestern’s Sue Ellen Stallard pitched a two-hitter in the losing effort.

Fullerton (42-10) and Southwestern will continue their best-of-three series today at noon at Fullerton. The series winner will advance to the state playoffs, which will be held May 20-22 in Sacramento.

In another Southern California Regional playoff game:

Saddleback 7, Rio Hondo 1--Patti Taylor (33-3), who holds the national community college career strikeout record, struck out 10 and gave up 6 hits for host Saddleback. The Gauchos scored five runs in the second inning, led by Tiffany Carrisi’s two-run triple and Shawn Gallagher’s bases-loaded single that drove in a pair of runs.

Saddleback and Rio Hondo continue their three-game series today at noon at Saddleback.
