The readers who criticize $8-a-day wages for extras in “Gringo,” the movie her company is producing in Mexico, should do their homework before citing the actress for exploitation.
My company subcontracts a well-respected, Mexican-owned assembly plant. The average wage in the facility is 75 cents to $1 an hour, 10% of the U.S. equivalent. Most of these workers are skilled labor.
We have no right to use U.S. barometers when gauging the pay of the workforce in another country.
