One thing Hilburn doesn’t mention is the fact that those “American cartoons” the Japanese kids are watching are produced in Japan; the records Japanese kids love so much are usually played by Western musicians with instruments made in Japan and, even the makeup that those Western performers use is predominantly made in Japan.
So why shouldn’t the Japanese kids love Western culture--it’s the only patriotic thing to do.
