Synod’s Relations With Other Churches Hit

The conservative Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod is not critical enough of other churches, particularly the new Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, said the Rev. Jacob A. O. Preus, who headed the synod when it underwent a schism during the 1970s.
Preus made his comments in St. Cloud, Minn., at a conference of the Missouri Synod, Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod and Evangelical Lutheran Synod members. Preus said, “We strain our ears to hear from the ELCA a good sound reassertion of the Lutheran Confessions . . . of a meaningful doctrine of biblical authority.”
