$18.7-Million Gem Sale

GENEVA —  A Sotheby’s gem sale Wednesday night fetched the equivalent of $18.7 million with record per carat prices paid for yellow and pink diamonds.

The auction house said the $1.9 million paid by a Geneva dealer for a fancy yellow diamond pendant of 8.93 carats represented a record price per carat for that type of gem.

Another record per carat for a pink diamond was the $1.66 million paid for a fancy pink diamond necklace with a drop pink diamond of 5.57 carats, Sotheby’s said.
