Roundup : Trojans’ Gutierrez Hits 3 Homers
Bob Korzep, the baseball coach at Castle Park High School, calls Cesar Gutierrez “the best-kept secret in town.”
Gutierrez may have changed that Tuesday. The senior third baseman, who left school and did not play last year, hit three two-run home runs as the Trojans beat host Marian, 23-1, in a Metro Conference game.
No. 7 Castle Park (21-3-1, 9-1) has scored 56 runs in its past four games. Joe Carrillo and Darin Husted both hit home runs for Castle Park. Marian is 3-17-1 and 1-9.
Gutierrez, who has five homers, lifted his average to .485 and his RBIs to 31.

Montgomery 7, Bonita Vista 1--Omar Ramirez pitched a complete-game two-hitter, and Alberto Candaleria had 3 hits and 2 RBIs to lead visiting Montgomery (12-7, 6-4). Bonita Vista, which committed six errors, fell to 15-8, 6-4.
Chula Vista 9, Coronado 8--Eric Slinkard’s two-run triple highlighted a three-run fourth inning as host Chula Vista (11-11, 8-2) rallied to hold its Metro-Mesa League lead. Coronado is 14-8, 5-5.
Sweetwater 6, Southwest 3--Juan Price had 2 hits and 2 RBIs for host Sweetwater (13-10-1, 7-3). Southwest is 1-19 and 0-10.

Morse 8, Point Loma 5--Nate Lunsford (4-3) allowed only 2 hits in 5 innings and had 2 hits for host Morse (12-12, 6-7). Teammate David Grigsby had a solo homer and three stolen bases. Jeff Gattis had three hits for Point Loma (8-14-1, 3-10).
Madison 3, Serra 2 (9)--Matt Lee (7-0) pitched a seven-hitter, and No. 2-ranked Madison (22-3, 11-2) took advantage of three errors to win at Serra. Lee struck out nine and walked none. Serra is 8-15, 4-9.
Mira Mesa 3, Patrick Henry 2--Randy Williams’ two-run single capped a three-run rally in the bottom of the sixth that gave No. 10-ranked Mira Mesa (17-6, 9-4) the victory at home. Travis Arnold (5-1) pitched a three-hitter. Patrick Henry is 11-11, 6-7.
AVOCADO LEAGUE
Ramona 10, Rancho Buena Vista 7--Jamey Gibson had 4 hits, including a two-run homer, and drove in 5 runs for host Ramona (10-10, 4-7). Shawn Boyd also hit a two-run homer for Ramona. Rancho Buena Vista is 7-15, 3-8.
San Pasqual 4, Oceanside 2--Kevin Herde pitched 1 innings of scoreless relief and Jay Jures keyed a two-run sixth-inning rally with an RBI double as San Pasqual (8-3, 12-9) won at home. Oceanside is 8-14, 3-8.
Escondido 23, El Camino 14--Jim McCarthy’s two-run homer highlighted an eight-run seventh-inning rally that carried Escondido (13-10, 7-4) past host El Camino (3-17, 2-9).

Mission Bay 13, Kearny 4--Sean Rees got the victory in relief and had 4 hits and 2 RBIs for No. 3 Mission Bay (20-2, 10-2).
University City 5, Clairemont 4--Jim Shafer had 2 hits and 2 RBIs for University City (8-15, 1-12). Victor Beltran had 3 hits and 3 RBIs for host Clairemont (7-14, 4-9).
La Jolla 5, USDHS 1--Brent Woodall (8-1) pitched a three-hitter for host La Jolla (18-5, 10-2). USDHS is 12-10, 7-5.

Poway 12, Fallbrook 10--First-place Poway (14-7, 8-2) moved a half game ahead of idle Mt. Carmel as Fallbrook (13-8, 5-4) issued 15 walks. Poway’s Ed Cornblum had 4 hits and 6 RBIs, and Bill Bertsch scored 3 runs.
Torrey Pines 7, San Dieguito 4--Bob McGriff hit two bases-empty homers, and reliever Aaron Mirandon (8-3) pitched six scoreless innings for Torrey Pines (20-3, 7-3). San Dieguito is 2-13 and 1-7.
Vista 12, Orange Glen 5--Shad Mix and Kevin Cargile each hit two-run homers as host Vista went to 10-13-1 and 4-6. Orange Glen is 6-16-1 and 0-8.
