Entire Town Council in Italy Arrested

SPEZZANO DELLA SILA, Italy — Paramilitary police arrested the entire six-man council of this small town in the Sila mountains of southern Italy on Wednesday, charging them with embezzlement, fraud and corruption.
Judicial sources said the charges referred to the alleged corrupt awarding of local public works contracts and payment of council grants. Some of the contracts were alleged to have gone to relatives of the accused, the sources said.
