Cheryl Kosits, an oncology nurse at Scripps Memorial Hospital, has been named nurse of the year by the Hospital Council of San Diego and Imperial counties.
The award at a luncheon Wednesday marked the second honor for Kosits this week. Later this week, the national Oncology Nursing Society will give her its Pearl Moore Award for outstanding nursing at a meeting in Pittsburgh.
She plans to use the $2,000 award that comes with the national prize to develop an easy cancer-screening questionnaire that hospital nurses can give to every patient they see.
Dr. Robert Brouillard, chairman of the hospital’s department of medicine, praised Kosits as “a super nurse in every way.” He gave her special credit for her communications skills.
