No Posts on Walkways

The Manhattan Beach City Council voted Tuesday against installing painted wooden posts along Crest and Ingleside drives as a replacement for existing curbs on those walkway streets.
Residents had voiced opposition to the posts, or bollards, which were originally prompted by petitions from a local service organization. Last year, the Neptunian Woman’s Club of Manhattan Beach had urged the council to create “an eye-catching differentiation” between the sidewalks and the curb, concerned that people with poor eyesight would trip on the existing curbs.
In a meeting last March and in subsequent responses from area residents, there was no support for installation of the bollards, which would have cost $14,920.
