Taiwan Songwriter Who Went to China Sues for Royalties

BEIJING — A Taiwan songwriter who defected to China five years ago has sued the Chinese government and a recording firm for royalties, the official New China News Agency said Friday.
It said Hou Dejian, who penned the highly popular tune “Descendant of the Dragon” and stunned the Taiwan pop world when he defected, sued the Ministry of Culture and the Nanhai Acoustics Co.
Hou alleges he is owed $54,000 based on a contract he signed with the company to produce and sell a tape called “New and Old Shoes,” the agency said.
The money was given to the Ministry of Culture.
