College Spring Sports : Moorpark Win Clinches Tie for WSC Title
For the fourth time in the last five years, the Moorpark College softball team will finish the season atop the Western State Conference standings.
The Lady Raiders clinched at least a tie for the conference title Tuesday at Moorpark with a 1-0 win over Bakersfield College. The win improved Moorpark’s record to 23-10-1, 10-0 in conference play.
BASEBALL
Santa Monica 9, Pierce 3--Justin Matter hit a home run and a double and had 2 runs batted in and Tony Soto was 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs to lead Santa Monica to a Western State Conference win at Pierce.
David Clemens hit a two-run home run for Pierce (11-16, 4-15).
Pomona 2, CS Northridge 0-- Bill Beeman hit a two-out, two-run double in the second inning to provide the scoring in a California Collegiate Athletic Assn. game at Pomona.
Valley 7-5, Harbor 6-2--Sean Thompson had three hits, including a home run, in the first game and Eric Vargas and Martey Williams each had home runs in the second game as the Monarchs swept a Southern California Conference doubleheader at Harbor.
University of San Diego 15, The Master’s 3--San Diego collected 20 hits off six Master’s pitchers in the nonconference game at San Diego.
Bakersfield 11, Moorpark 2--After starter Paul Perce left in the sixth inning with a sore elbow, Bakersfield rallied for six runs off three Raider relievers in the Western State Conference game at Moorpark.
