CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. — The driver of a school bus died of a heart attack at the wheel Monday but a 14-year-old boy steered the bus out of the path of an oncoming car, and two classmates jammed their feet on the brake to bring it to a safe halt.
Jack Florival, a seventh-grade student at Ralph G. Reed Junior High School, said the driverless bus moved for nearly a block before he and the two boys brought it under control. Police said no students were injured.
