Local News in Brief : Irvine : Boy, 14, Killed on Bike on Bonita Canyon Road
A 14-year-old boy struck and killed by a car while bicycling was identified by police Tuesday as David William Lindeman of Irvine.
The accident occurred about 5 p.m. Monday as the teen-ager was pedaling his bike east along Bonita Canyon Drive, Irvine Police Officer Doug Coffing said. A 1984 Buick Regal driven by a 52-year-old Irvine man hit the bicyclist from behind about a mile east of MacArthur Boulevard, Coffing said.
The boy suffered “major head trauma” and was pronounced dead at the scene, Coffing said.
Police said charges probably would not be filed against the motorist because the youth was riding on an exceptionally dangerous road for bicycles. The accident investigation is continuing, however.
