Eastern Airlines Inc. has exaggerated and in some cases lied about the amount of training it provides airline mechanics, the International Assn. of Machinists charged. Eastern disputed the allegations. The union, battling Eastern management over proposed wage cuts, said the airline has sought to coerce mechanics into signing forms that reflect training those mechanics never received. Earlier this month, the Federal Aviation Administration launched a sweeping safety investigation of Eastern and its parent company, Texas Air Corp. of Houston, partly in response to concerns raised by Eastern’s unions. The results of that 30-day examination are expected next month.
