SmithKline Beckman’s income rose 14% to $166.5 million in the first quarter. The Philadelphia-based company said revenue was up 16% to $1.162 billion. The company said strong performance from the Diagnostic/Analytical and Eye Care groups together with favorable currency exchange rates contributed to its performance. The company said consumer products sales were even with last year’s quarter, but sales were higher for pharmaceutical and animal health-care products.
